GROUND RULES - Arriving on scene

You may decide to travel to the scene independently or, if it's more convenient, in the same car. When you arrive on scene use the scheme's mobile phone to contact ambulance control (the number is in the phone's memory). Note that we have been instructed not to enter a house until both partners have arrived, but you can use your own initiative here! Explain that you are members of the Pennard Community First Responder Scheme and that ambulance control have sent you there to care for the patient until an ambulance arrives. Be sure to explain that you are not paramedics but that an ambulance with paramedics is on its way. If you are asked for identity show them your First Responder ID card.

Before you start to examine a patient put on a pair of latex gloves (kept in the green bag).

Tip: You'll need to make notes, e.g. the time you arrive, the time the paramedics arrive, etc, and you may want to record other details such as the patient's name, pulse rate, any medication he may be on, and so on. If you keep a biro with you, you can easily write these details on the back of one of the gloves.
