1 Minutes of last meeting (4 March 2010)
These were accepted as a true record.

2 Matters arising
  None.

3 Policy for retiring members

After a short discussion it was decided that in future any member retiring from PFR would receive a thank you card and the best wishes of fellow team members only and that no PFR funds will be used to purchase leaving gifts.

4 Treasurer's items
  1. Adrian has explored investing some of PFR's funds in a deposit or savings account. He has found out that currently interest rates are so low that they'd only attract about 8p interest per year. It was agreed that funds should not be locked away, e.g. in bonds, but that if an instant access account with attractive rates could be found the it would be OK to invest in that. As ours is a charity account Adrian wasn't sure what options are available to us. He will investigate further. ACTION: ADRIAN

  2. Prior to Allan Barham's retirement there were 4 signatories to the account. It was decided that from now on three would suffice; Adrian, Jerry and Dave B. Any 2 out of the 3 signatories are required per cheque.

5 Rota

The Butterfields will move from their Sunday night shift to a Monday night shift and may be prepared to take on an extra duty after September. Ian and Dave B will cover on Wednesday from 9:00am to 2:00pm from 9 June. There's nobody available to cover with Julie on Monday mornings. Ann will cover every Friday night, alternating with Betty and Linda. Dave and Sally are now covering Thursdays from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Steve recommended contacting Colin Jones in WAST who can advise on the busiest periods in our area. We could then tailor the rota to cover those times?

6 Lone working

Steve explained WAST's policy regarding lone working by first responders. Currently only 2 responders in the area cover alone, both members of Mumbles FR. These two (males) however have experience in other aspects of their lives, e.g. as a lifeboat crew member, that give them the confidence and training to cover alone. No other responders are expected to cover alone. On the other hand, if one responder arrives on scene before another - and assesses that it's safe to enter - he or she can do so, though control should be informed. Steve also reminded us that if we come across an incident when not on duty we should contact ambulance control and book the call as a first responder - that way we will be fully insured.

7 AMPDS codes

Steve explained the current situation; we are still using v11.3 even though v12 has been published and distributed (There's a copy in the red bag). There are however operational problems with v12 and it hasn't yet been implemented. From a FR point of view all the new codes will need to be assessed for suitability for FR attendance before the system can go live. We'll have to wait and see what happens over the next few months.

8 Purchase of extra kit
It was agree that Dave W would liaise with the golf club regarding siting a defib, in a weather-resistant case with digital lock, on an outer wall of the club house. The local community charity have offered to meet the cost which is likely to be approximately £2K. Jerry will contact WAST to get quotes and pass them on to Dave W. ACTION: JERRY

It was agreed not to purchase an extra defib for PFR as the public access defib (above) would also be available to us. It was agreed though to purchase 2 of the same type of green first responder bags that the newest volunteers used during their training. ACTION: JERRY
9 Any other business
Steve announced that due to a restructuring of staff within WAST he is officially no longer the first responder officer for this area. In fact there are no official first responders in Wales at the moment! One person will be appointed to oversee all FR groups in Wales and the training will be shared between the WAST training department and certain FR members who will be trained as trainers. This also means that the refresher training scheduled for 23rd May has been cancelled.
