Pennard Community First Responders

Minutes of the meeting held on 27 February 2006 at Pennard school

Present: Dem, Laurie, Helen, Bill, Margaret, Frances, Allan, Pauline, Jeremy, David, Betty, Jane, Emma, Janet and Howard

1  Minutes of previous meeting
These were accepted as a true record.

2 Matters arising
  1. We have received 2 calls so far this year [a 3rd call was received on 28/2/06]. There was a short debrief about each of the 9 calls since the last meeting on 14 November.
  2. Betty passed on thanks to Fran and Allan from the husband of one the patients they had attended.
  3. Helen recommended we check use-by dates on medicines when on calls.
3 The oxygen cylinder
Dem recommended we practice turning on the cylinder in the dark as we may find ourselves in less than favourable conditions when we need to use it. He pointed out that some cylinders had been found to have faulty gauges - ours is OK. He also recommended that if we use the oxygen and the tank is left half full or less to contact him or Andrew (andrew.vaughan@ambulance.wales.nhs.uk) to arrange for a replacement to be supplied.

4 Members' clothing

  1. Dem to ask Eric to return his fleece and polo shirt and offer to refund the money he paid for the fleece. He will also see if he has a spare polo shirt for Emma.
  2. It was decided to order 4 new fleeces (6 if that's the minimum order number) to offer free of charge to the new members. Janet has Nina's fleece. All fleeces will remain the property of Pennard First Responders.
  3. It was also decided that if members want sweatshirts and/or cargo trousers they will have to pay for them but they will remain their own property. Jeremy to draw up a list and order the items.
5 Passing on the kit and communication
It was pointed out that at times there's a lack of communication between members whenever there's a change to the usual rota. Dem urged all to ensure that everybody who should know about any changes is contacted, i.e. we all know what's going on, who has the kit, who it will be passed to, etc.

6 Copley House Fundraising
Wednesday 8 March @ 12:30. It was decided that Dem, Janet and Betty would attend. Dem will give a short talk and demo and Janet and Betty would stay for lunch. Our funds will cover the cost of the meals.

7 Finding new members

  1. There are 6 potential new members in the pipeline. All 6 have received and completed their CRB forms and are now ready for training.
  2. A provisional date of 11/12 March has been arranged for training the new members in the school hall. [Note: this has been postponed until late April or May].
  3. Dem asked all present to talk to acquaintances, friends and family to publicise the group and see if there's interest in joining. All interested parties should be put in touch with him.
8 Training (10 & 11 March)
  See 7. above.

9 Financial report
Allan issued a financial report that confirms a healthy bank balance, though it's not big enough to fund all the extra clothing that may be required. See 4. above.

10 AOB

  1. Helen to confirm that we will have a stand in Pennard Carnival once again this year.
  2. Betty mentioned that there will be a May Fair in Bishopston on 1 May and a Fete on 12 August and wondered if we should have a presence at one or both. Dem will investigate.
  3. We have the option of 'piggy-backing' onto Adrian's HeartStart stand at the Gower show on 5 August. Dem to investigate once again.
