CARDIAC CONDITIONS - Angina
 
Angina Pectoris is the narrowing of the heart's own blood supply vessels, normally caused by stress, alcohol or exercise.
 
Signs & Symptoms
  • Gripping central chest pain, spreading often to the jaw and down the left arm
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weakness, often sudden and extreme
  • Feeling of anxiety
Treatment
  • Get the patient to sit down. Make him comfortable and reassure him
  • If he has medicine for angina (tablets or a 'puffer') let him administer it himself. Help if necessary
  • Give oxygen therapy (100% mask @ 15 litres per minute)
  • Encourage rest. The attack should ease within minutes
