| INITIAL ACTIONS ON SCENE - DRABC | |
| DRABCD (or 'Doctor ABCD') is the sequence of checks you should always follow when you arrive at the scene of a call-out. Following the sequence will protect you and ensure that you assess the patient's condition accurately. | |
| D | Danger - before you approach the patient ensure that there is no danger to you, e.g. live wire, danger from passing traffic, mad dog, etc |
| R | Response - How alert is the patient? Remember AVPU. |
| A | Airway - ensure that the airway is open and clear. If the airway is obstructed attempt to clear the obstruction |
| B | Breathing - look, listen and feel for breath for 10 seconds |
| C | Compression - If you don't detect breathing commence CPR immediately (30 breaths to 2 compressions). Work as a team to administer oxygen. Attach the bag,/valve/mask to the cylinder and set the flow rate to 15 litres per minute (the maximum available). |
| D | Defibrillation - Deploy the AED; switch it on, attach the pads and follow the prompts |
